In the world of love stories, some moments are meant to be unforgettable. As a photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful moments, but few compare to the magic of a secret proposal during a couple's photoshoot. Today, I'm thrilled to share Cyrus & Zoey's story, which left their hearts full of joy and eyes glistening with tears of happiness.
The set up
The couple live in Singapore and have been dating for the past five years after meeting through a mutual friend. They were planning their first trip to Cape Town, when Cyrus had the idea of surprising Zoey by booking a photographer during this trip. Zoey had no idea the at the photo shoot was booked or that he would be planning to pop the question.
The photoshoot
The day of the shoot arrived, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The sun was shining, casting a golden glow over the landscape, and a gentle breeze added a touch of romance to the air.
The two were on a cellar tour at Babylonstoren when I arrived. At the end of the tour, Cyrus told Zoey he was headed to the washroom, but secretively met me at the entrance during this time. We went back to meet with Zoey and he explained to her that he was surprising her with a photoshoot to remember their time in Cape Town.
We started with some casual shots, capturing their playful interactions and genuine laughter. Zoey started off feeling shy but then eased up as we continued shooting, unaware of the surprise that was just around the corner. As we moved from one beautiful spot to another, I could see the anticipation building in Cyrus's eyes.
That's when I knew it was time to signal Cyrus to get ready to go down on one knee...
I asked Zoey to pose with her back to Cyrus, but smiling as sh faced me. This was the signal Cyrus and I had planned. As Zoey stood there, lost in the beauty of the moment, Cyrus quietly took a small box from his pocket and got down on one knee.
I then asked Zoey to turn around and face Cyrus, and in that instant, the world seemed to stop. Her eyes widened with surprise, and a gasp escaped her lips as she saw Cyrus kneeling before her, holding out the most beautiful ring she had ever seen.
“Will you marry me?” he asked, his voice filled with love and hope.
Zoey’s hands flew to her mouth, tears streaming down her cheeks. For a moment, she was too overwhelmed to speak. Then, with a radiant smile that could light up the entire garden, she nodded vigorously and finally managed to say, “Yes!”
The next few moments were a whirlwind of emotions, hugs, and kisses. I clicked away, capturing every tear, every laugh, and every embrace. It was a privilege to witness such raw, unfiltered happiness.
Being a part of Cyrus and Zoey’s secret proposal was a reminder of why I love what I do. Capturing moments of genuine love and happiness is a gift, and creating memories that couples will cherish forever is incredibly rewarding.
